An ND School in the Midwest -
Please Welcome
National University of Health Sciences
To those of you who’ve been writing us feverishly asking if there would ever be an ND school in the Midwest: Your wish has been granted.
You’ve probably noticed a new presence at the AANMC over the past several months – on our website, at our most recent events, and on our college fair calendar: National University of Health Sciences.
History and academics
Though its ND program is new, the University itself is not. NUHS has been setting standards of excellence in health career education for over 100 years, providing a dynamic atmosphere where students and faculty of diverse medical specialties can work together as colleagues. And the campus is located just outside of Chicago in Lombard, Illinois!
NUHS’s naturopathic medicine program offers a rigorous and academically challenging curriculum that blends a thorough scientific foundation with comprehensive training in evidence-based naturopathic treatments. The program offers future NDs a variety of learning opportunities, including student residencies in clinical research, clinical practice, family practice and diagnostic imaging. Students also have the option of flexible, reduced-load tracks and dual enrollment in other health care profession programs.
We believe that better patient outcomes and a better health care delivery system depend on multiple medical specialties respecting each other and working together, states NUHS president, James F. Winterstein, DC.
Accreditation
NUHS’s ND program is in candidacy status with the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME), meaning that the program has already met the CNME's 17 eligibility requirements. (Formal accreditation is granted only after a school has graduated its first class of ND students.) While candidacy does not guarantee eventual accreditation, students and graduates of the program are still eligible to sit for the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), the passage of which is required to obtain licensure.
We are thrilled to have NUHS as a strong addition to the AANMC, and we encourage you to learn more about this proud institution by visiting its website at www.NUHS.edu.
