Alumni Speaker Profile

Diane Hawk, Naturopathic Doctor

Diane Hawk, ND, PhD, earned a doctor of naturopathic medicine degree from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Ariz. She holds a PhD in pathology from Georgetown University, in Washington, DC, and an MS in microbiology and immunology from Hahnemann University, Philadelphia, Pa. (now Drexel University College of Medicine.)

Dr. Hawk was an immunologist in the biomedical field for over 20 years prior to becoming a naturopath. She worked for the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) evaluating clinical trials for cancer vaccines and cytokines and also treating patients suffering from a variety of immunologic defects.

Dr. Hawk first became interested in the field of natural medicine 10 years ago when she injured her back in a bicycling accident. The muscle relaxants and pain killers that her doctor prescribed did little to alleviate her pain and the side effects made it difficult for her to concentrate at work. Acupuncture treatments alleviated her muscle spasms and reduced the pain. Her chiropractor manipulated her back to re-align it; stretching exercises and herbal supplements kept her muscles relaxed and in alignment. As a result, she was pain-free. It was this experience that inspired her to learn more about natural treatments and herbs.

In her practice, Dr. Hawk works with herbs, homeopathy, nutrition, hydrotherapy and mind-body medicine. Using these modalities, she has seen dramatic results in the resolution of both chronic and acute conditions, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, allergies, fibromyalgia, pain, colds, menopause and chemical sensitivities. Her ultimate goal is to use an individual approach with every patient and to teach them how to heal their bodies on their own, staying healthy to eliminate the need to take medicine for the rest of their lives.
