Heather Zwickey, PhD

Heather ZwickeyDr. Zwickey is Director of Research at Helfgott Research Institute, and Assistant Professor of Immunology at National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM).

Dr. Zwickey trained at the world-renowned National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver, Colo. She received a PhD in Immunology and Microbiology while studying infectious disease and vaccine development. Dr. Zwickey completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University. Her research there examined the mechanisms of autoimmunity and cancer immunotherapies. In addition to performing research, Dr. Zwickey taught in the first-year medical school curriculum at Yale University School of Medicine.

Dr. Zwickey now conducts research as a senior investigator at the Helfgott, NCNM’s Research Institute. She has developed a portfolio of fascinating studies, several of which are NIH funded. Currently, she heads several studies looking at the effects of botanicals, hydrotherapy, energy medicine and diet on inflammation and immune activation. Dr. Zwickey also explores the mechanisms involved in psychoneuroimmunology. Dr. Zwickey maintains active collaborations with investigators at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland and Pontifica Universidade Catolica Do Rio Grange Do Sol in Porto Alegre, Brazil. She lectures nationally and internationally in the field of immunology and natural medicine.

As Director of Research at the Helfgott Research Institute at NCNM, Dr. Zwickey has built an extraordinary research group. She has recruited faculty members with expertise in naturopathy, Chinese medicine, psychology and nutrition.  Under her direction, the Helfgott has grown at an exciting and rapid pace. Dr. Zwickey has won several awards for her leadership and is often consulted by the media in matters of immunology.
