Alumni Speaker Profile
JoAnn Yanez, ND, MPH
Ever passionate about prevention and wellness, Dr. JoAnn Yanez’ career has spanned patient care, medical education, media and advocacy. A graduate of the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM) and their family practice residency, Dr. Jo taught clinical and academic courses, spearheaded bilingual patient recruitment and advanced care for the underserved while on staff at SCNM. Dr. Yanez continued promotion of high quality naturopathic medical education through service on the Council of Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME) board and as a founding member of the Committee on Postdoctoral Naturopathic Medical Education (CPNME).
A native New Yorker, Dr. Jo was drawn home after 9/11. However, she came back to a state that did not license naturopathic physicians. As a result, Dr. Yanez worked diligently as a board member of the New York Association of Naturopathic Physicians (NYANP)
, ultimately directing government relations and state legislative efforts toward licensure. Her work culminated in advancement of awareness at the state and federal level and included support of governors as well as other state-elected officials. The SCNM Legacy and NYANP Physician of the Year Awards were bestowed upon her in recognition of commitment to promoting excellence in naturopathic medicine.
Currently Dr. Yanez is executive director of the Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges (AANMC), the organization that promotes high quality naturopathic medical education in the United States and Canada. She speaks and writes internationally on current topics in prevention and wellness.
Dr. Yanez resides in the Midwest with her husband and son, and co-founded Law-4-docs.com
with her husband, Dr. Victor Waters, MD, JD.
