Kara Fitzgerald, Naturopathic Doctor
Dr. Fitzgerald earned a doctor of naturopathic medicine degree from National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Ore. She completed her residency in nutritional biochemistry and functional laboratory medicine at Metametrix Clinical Laboratory in Atlanta, Ga. Her residency clinical training was held at Progressive Medical Centers, a large integrated medical practice focusing on the treatment of complex chronic disease. While there, her residency research focus involved tryptophan-kynurenine pathway abnormalities and schizophrenia as well as functional assessment of genomic polymorphisms.
Now a full-time employee at Metametrix, she is senior clinical educator at the laboratory and also maintains a clinical practice at Spherios Medical Center. At Metametrix, she consults with clinicians worldwide to assist with laboratory metabolic profile interpretation and clinical interventions. She is co-author of Evaluating Low Plasma Homocysteine and a contributing author of the upcoming 2nd edition of Laboratory Evaluations in Molecular Medicine. In addition to participating in Metametrix grand rounds and teleconferencing series, Dr. Fitzgerald lectures on the clinical application of functional laboratory interpretation, most recently at The Institute for Functional Medicine’s AFMCP, Institute of Women’s Health, and at clinical Grand Rounds at the North American naturopathic medical schools.
