Sara Thyr, Naturopathic Doctor & Licensed Acupuncturist
Dr. Sara Thyr graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts in biology from Ottawa University, Ottawa, Kan., and obtained her doctoral degree in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University Seattle, Wash. Concurrent with her studies at Bastyr, Dr. Thyr also completed a specialty certification in naturopathic midwifery. She went on to become the first licensed naturopathic midwife in New Hampshire. Her primary areas of focus are women’s health, infertility, midwifery, pediatrics and family medicine.
Dr. Thyr is on the board of directors of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and has served as past president of the New Hampshire Association of Naturopathic Doctors. She is president of the American College of Naturopathic Obstetrics.
Dr. Thyr frequently lectures on topics of public interest, leads detoxification workshops, teaches midwifery and physician assistant students, and provides continuing medical education lectures for colleagues. Dr. Thyr has been featured in The Nashua Telegraph, The Union Leader, The Broadcaster and on WMUR television. In addition, she has co-authored several books on natural cooking, such as Refined to Real Food, and contributes to Alternative Health, an online forum for alternative health practitioners.
Dr. Thyr attends mostly home births, and has also traveled to the Philippines to attend births at the revered Jose Fabella Hospital in Manila. She currently practices in Bedford, N.H. but will soon be relocating to northern California with her husband. Dr. Thyr plans to continue private practice and teaching and hopes to begin research on naturopathic treatments for infertility.
