“Always invite good seeds to manifest,” advises world renowned spiritual leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Thich Nhat Hanh in his book The Art of Power. He continues, “You know that you have a seed of love, a seed of forgiveness, a seed of joy, of peace, of happiness. Learn ways to touch them and help them manifest. If you live in a good environment, where you are supported by a loving, healthy community, you have plenty of opportunities to help these positive seeds manifest.”
The career of a naturopathic doctor is one way to manifest the positive seeds of healing, caring and helping others. Just ask any ND who practices this in their clinic every day!
Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals, people who share positive ideas similar to your own, is another effective way to water and nurture these seeds. The schools of naturopathic medicine do their best to create as many opportunities for you to do this as possible, even before the term begins: the AANMC Forums, campus open houses, college fairs ... We’ll let you know what’s out there. Just find the venue that best suits you, and go!
To your health and your future,

The AANMC’s annual Prospective Student Days event in August was part of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) 23rd Annual Conference. With over 500 NDs from around the world in attendance, this event gave prospective students a great chance to increase their understanding of the ND profession.
If you missed the event, here are some highlights:
Prospective students had the chance to speak with admissions representatives from each of the seven accredited naturopathic medical schools in North America.
SCNM campus tours – from the classroom to the lab to the courtyard – gave everyone an inside look at one of our ND schools, not to mention a very tasty lunch!
Several prospective students enjoyed attending the professional-level doctor seminars on various health topics, and perusing over 150 natural products suppliers’ booths as well.
Dr. Paul Mittman, ND, founding president of the AANMC, opened the presentations by addressing the audience on the future of medicine. He asked audience members to name some prevailing health problems today that were not common in the 1980s. Issues named included: HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, diabetes and antibiotic-resistant bacteria. When asked to consider the patient population anticipated 10 years from now, audience members cited such problems as malabsorption of nutrients, radio-frequency related illnesses, environmental illnesses, stress-related diseases and many more.
For the current ND students in attendance at the conference, the week culminated with the inaugural ZRT Cup competition – a college bowl competition in which the ND schools competed head-to-head. NCNM and Bastyr University won the first and second prizes, $10,000 and $3,000 respectively, sponsored and funded by ZRT Laboratories.
