Meet North America's top NDs

Are you eager to learn more about becoming a naturopathic doctor? Welcome to the beginning of AANMC's doctor profile series. We're in touch with doctors who made the choice to practice naturopathic medicine — and are glad they did.

Naturopathic doctors (NDs) design their own career paths: Many open their own private practices. Others go to work in integrative clinics alongside MDs, osteopaths, chiropractors, acupuncturists and other health professionals. They are working in both urban and rural offices, in both licensed and unlicensed states and provinces, and sometimes overseas. They're raising families. They earn stable and rising incomes. And they're making ground-breaking contributions to science, research, politics and the advancement of the profession.

And what's more — they love to go to work every day, and they make a prosperous living doing so!

You'll have the opportunity to read about many more NDs and their range of practices and career designs in forthcoming editions.

Meet just a few of AANMC-school alums we've interviewed ...

  1. Destined to be a different kind of doctor.
    Carrie Louise Daenell, ND

When naturopathic physician Carrie Louise Daenell first saw a brochure from a naturopathic medical college, she finally had the answer to that nagging question: "What am I here for?"

In just seven years of practice in an unlicensed state, she now earns an income in the top one percent of those in similar practices, nationally. Find out what drives Dr. Daenell, and learn some of her practice-management tips.

  2. Graduate gets great start at integrative practice.
    Donese Worden, ND, MA

Like many naturopathic physicians, Dr. Donese Worden chose the field because she believed in its precepts: treating the whole person physically, emotionally and spiritually to address the root of the problem.

After four years in practice, she still believes in the same holistic precepts and finds the work rewarding. But Dr. Worden found something else she didn't expect: financial success, virtually from day one.

Seeing that you can be both financially successful AND contribute back is something we should all do for the health of our profession and the public. – Donese Worden, ND, MA

I would passionately encourage anyone considering dedicating their life to this work, to do so. I don't know very many people in other fields or professions who love their work like most of my colleagues in the field of naturopathic medicine do. – Carrie Louise Daenell, ND
