(July 20, 2009) – Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (BINM) recently received a $255,000 research grant from the Lotte & John Hecht Memorial Foundation, which provides financial support for complementary and alternative medicine, particularly the treatment of cancer.
The grant will be used to study and assess the effectiveness of naturopathic medicine as a whole system, as well as to provide a framework for evidence-based practice, a feat that has been challenging thus far due to the many different treatment approaches used in naturopathic medicine. the Boucher Institute will conduct this study in collaboration with the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in Toronto. Together, researchers from the two schools will use a newly designed Naturopathic Patient Database (NPD) to track community health data, such as illnesses treated, treatments used and the final outcomes of naturopathic medical treatment.
