Student Profile
Aisha Chilcoat, Naturopathic Medical Student, Class of 2011
Aisha Chilcoat is a fourth-year student at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM). Aisha was born and raised in the heartland of America and always dreamed of becoming a doctor. She attended The John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree with a double major in anthropology and natural sciences with a concentration in biology. While studying at Johns Hopkins, Aisha conducted research at the Carnegie Institution of Washington, department of embryology on genetic mapping of zebra fish, and also at the Bloomberg School of Public Health on breast cancer. She also studied abroad in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Brazil. After graduation, Aisha took a position as manager of pharmaceutical-sponsored clinical research trials for a major pharmaceutical company. While working, Aisha attended the Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, Del., and earned a master of jurisprudence in health law in 2005.
In 2007 Aisha decided to pursue her original dream of becoming a doctor. She realized that her travels, education and life experiences had led her to a more holistic approach to healing, and she enrolled at SCNM in Tempe, Ariz. In addition to taking classes at SCNM she has worked in the SCNM clinic, Casa Clinica Convivencia Campesina in Mexico and True North Health Center in California. She has also done clinical rotations at the George Washington University Center for Integrative Medicine, and also at the University of Kansas School of Medicine research labs.
Aisha has realized that drawing from both the traditional research model and from modern naturopathy has immeasurable possibilities in the world of medicine. She looks forward to graduating with a doctorate in naturopathic medicine from SCNM in 2011 and practicing in the areas of oncology, environmental medicine and pediatrics.
