Student Profile
Karen Brothers, Naturopathic Medical Student, Class of 2012
Karen Brothers is a second-year student at the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) in Portland, Oregon.
Karen’s interests in mathematics and science led her to enroll at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Ga., where she earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. She continued her engineering education at Stanford University in Stanford, Calif., where she earned a master of science in biomechanical engineering and a degree of engineer in mechanical engineering.
Bioengineering courses and research projects piqued Karen’s interests in health and preventive medicine, and she pursued these interests while working in the automotive, consulting and software industries. Once she decided to transform her personal interests into a professional pursuit, naturopathic medicine was the perfect choice.
When not studying, Karen enjoys cooking, reading and seeing the sights of the Pacific Northwest.
