Takiyah Smith, Naturopathic Medical Student, Class of 2012

Takiyah Smith is a doctoral candidate in naturopathic medicine at National University of Health Sciences (NUHS). She is also an active member of the NUHS chapter of the Naturopathic Medical Student Association (NMSA).

Takiyah served as the secretary of the NMSA from 2009-2010, and was a member of the 2010 ZRT Cup team that traveled to Portland, Ore.

In 2011, she had the privilege of traveling to Ometepe, Nicaragua, with Natural Doctors International (NDI) outreach. She has also traveled to Brazil to assist in building a health care clinic and performed weight measurements for infants and children at the local clinic.

Takiyah is a native of Charlotte, N.C., and received her bachelor's degree in biology from Davidson College in 2002.

It is Takiyah’s desire to practice medicine in a manner that educates and empowers the patient. Women's health and pediatrics are of special interest. Takiyah hopes to obtain a master's degree in acupuncture and oriental medicine in the near future.
